Haw Par Villa (SG) Singapore
Haw Par Villa (SG) Singapore, is a place of Asian cultural artistry, heritage and Chinese folklore. Once known as Tiger Balm Gardens, this outdoor cultural themed park was found by Aw Boon Haw, a Chinese businessman and philanthropist, who is also the founder of the famous Tiger Balm medical ointment together with his brother, Aw Boon Par.
Today, the Pasir Panjang Road Haw Par Villa 8.5-hectare park overarches more than 1,000 statues and 150 giant dioramas exposed to the elements, as well as an indoor museum that houses macabre untold tales. The outdoor gallery is open to the public for Free, while the Hell’s Museum requires an entrance fee (see below for ticket prices).
Haw Par Villa Hell’s Museum
Haw Par Villa Hell’s Museum opened in October 2021 and explores the concept of afterlife arising from traditional Chinese folk religions. The 10 Courts of Hell takes centre stage amongst the mythological displays in this paid area of exhibits. It takes you through the ten courts of hell, each depicting a level of hierarchical moral judgment and punishments. The karmic sins and consequential damnation detailed in the ten courts of Hell serve as a moral compass to guide individuals towards virtuous conduct and deterring them from acts of transgressions. The principles of cause-and-effects as well as justice and retributions are influenced by the beliefs and aligned with the teachings of Confucianism, Buddhism and Hinduism, as legend has it.
