Royal Caribbean Spectrum of the Seas (Singapore) Itinerary 2022 & More

Royal Caribbean Spectrum of the Seas has since assumed its cruises in April 2022 for Singapore and Malaysia having been disrupted by the Covid-19 outbreak. China and Japan currently remain out of bounds due to the closure of their borders for cruises. If you’re interested to go onboard a 5D4N cruise to nowhere (disembarking from Singapore – Kelang – Penang – Singapore), then this guide is for you. Before you read on, you may want to preview it in action in the video below including a quick room tour of our state room with unobstructed balcony view.

Royal Caribbean Cruise Singapore: Spectrum of the Seas Entertainment Live Show Times

The Royal Caribbean Cruise (Singapore) Spectrum of the Seas itinerary covers a wide variety of entertainment options.

The cruise offers a diverse range of live shows, music and dance performances, movie screenings as well as the Casino. Our recent cruise set sail from the 7th to 11th July 2022 (Monday to Thursday), and we were told the itinerary will most likely only alter every few months.

Day 1 (Singapore – Kelang) – we recommend you begin your journey with early check-in (earliest at 12 noon), so you’d have time to have lunch before unpacking (the state rooms will only be ready by 1:30pm) and get your reservations done on your Royal Caribbean app (this will be covered in detail as you read later) for your shows. There were no Headliner Shows scheduled on Day 1, however, be sure not to miss the quintessential music band performance by The Rhythmocracy at the Two70 stage located at Deck 5 of the ship. The Two70 stage is at the tail end of it, hence in the day you’ll be able to see vast sea views (we managed to see the ship turn around to ready itself to set sail from Marina Bay Singapore at 5:15pm). The Rhythmocracy Quartet delivers every beat of their punches with both their superb funky and balladic musical arrangement as well as their smooth vocals. This is a no-break live band performance that lasts about 45 minutes. No reservations necessary. They also perform in the Music Hall (located just outside the Casino on Deck 3) at 10:30pm on Tuesday & Wednesday nights. However on the first night, Aura Band from the Philippines takes this Music Hall slot. If you are still up for some party music until late at night (they take almost all dedications), be sure to find yourself a seat early, as the crowd may start to pour in and stand around you because the place is full. Our favourite spot to enjoy the band is from the seats on the 2nd storey along the glass railing, just in front of the bar. Try their Sunrise Tequila (USD$10), you won’t be disappointed.

The Rhythmocracy

Day 2 (Kelang – Penang)- This is the day that you need to catch world class entertainer Pengfei Su at 7:15pm and 9:30pm. We suggest finishing your dinner around 6:30pm and then proceed to start queueing at the Royal Theatre located on Deck 4 for the 7:15pm show in order to have a comfortable break before the following show that day The Silk Road. When we got to the Royal Theatre around 6:45pm there was already a big crowd forming at the entrance. It is free seating, but try to avoid seats directly behind the barricade as well as the pillars in order to have unobstructed views. Not only did PengFei perfect his seamless “face-changing” moves (Bian Lian), he also performed magic tricks such as linking rings and poker cards, etc. We were most impressed by his last segment in which he juggled multiple diabolos. This guy is truly a master of all tricks! The whole performance lasts about 45 minutes. No reservations required.

The Silk Road show times were scheduled at 8:15pm as well as 10:30pm on Day 2 only. Ensure that you reserve your seats as soon as you came onboard the day before. After Pengfei Su’s performances, you can have a good 2-hour break to do whatever you want. For my group who are big eaters, and did not eat too much from the main dining (sit-down service) due to being a little pressed for time earlier, we continued to eat our dinner at Windjammer (deck 14) to try their dinner buffet spread this time round. For the Silk Road 10:30pm show, we suggest you begin queueing at the Two70 (deck 5) by 9:45pm because of the limited seats located around the stage periphery. The production also gives Royal Caribbean Class members priority seatings, therefore by the time we went in, the front rows were mostly taken up by them; we could only either choose to sit behind the railing (with some planter boxes blocking the recessed part of the stage) or the 2nd storey where the seats are further away with glass barricade blocking some views too. The Silk Road is an original live production by Royal Caribbean International. Prepare to be wowed by the stunning costumes and visuals made possible by the Two70 robotics set up, as well as the skilled acrobatics by the performers. The show duration is about 45 minutes. Reservations are necessary. Staff will be scanning your booking barcode from the Royal Caribbean phone app (details explained as you read on) in order to grant you entry.

Day 3 (Cruising) – Another magician Zlwin Chew takes the stage of the Royal Theatre on this day with two time slots 7:15pm and 9:30pm. Having had an activity-packed day, we decided to enjoy a longer dinner this time round and went for the 9:30pm slot. The crowd isn’t any lesser than PengFei Su’s 7:15pm show the day before, hence we conclude that the guests have no timing preferences. Zlwin performed a series of vanishing acts with his partner Paige, together with various tricks including cards, wine bottles, etc, in between. There were some mind-blowing segments in which he wowed the crowd with mentalism moments that you’ll get to experience first hand.

Day 4 (Penang – Singapore) – Royal Caribbean Spectrum of the Seas really saved their biggest budget production for the last day! Showgirl! is another Royal Caribbean International original live production set to entertain you from start till end. It is only scheduled for 7:15pm and 9:30pm on the last evening of the cruise, held at the Royal Theatre (deck 4). With colourful costumes and lightings as well as strong vocals, the performers bring you a remarkable journey of showgirls and performing artistes from the past, present and future.

Royal Caribbean Spectrum of the Seas Cruise: Sports & Activities

Preparation prior to boarding

Once you’re booked for a trip, you’d be required to download the Royal Caribbean app and create an account. You’ll need to do an online check-in on the app (at least 48 hours prior to departure time) for a quicker boarding experience. You may also use the app to make show reservations and the planning of your cruise calendar; however this can only be done using their wi-fi onboard, as the app is designed to only work within the ship. So feel free to browse through the activities and entertainment options on the app in the meantime.

There are essentially a few steps to online checking-in:

  1. Filling up of particulars and upload a photo of your face
  2. Selecting your preferred arrival time (with options of half-hour intervals from 12noon onwards. The gate closes at 3:30pm, and we are required to complete check-in no later than 60 minutes before departure time).
  3. Uploading an official Covid-19 vaccination proof (eg. vaccination card indicating the record of all 3 doses issued by MOH on the day you completed your booster shot)
  4. Linking a credit card to your Royal Caribbean account
  5. Completing a health questionnaire (1 day before departure)

Covid-19 Protocols
Next, you’ll need to start making an appointment for a rapid antigen test (ART) with any Quick Test Centres (QTCs) or Combined Test Centres (CTCs), or any other approved healthcare providers that offer Tele-ART or pre-departure testing. Be sure to book your appointment no earlier than 24 hours before your departure time. For eg, our departure was 5:30pm, therefore we had to do the test only after 5:30pm the day before. Your HealthHub app and TraceTogether app would be automatically updated of the ART result in a few minutes. A negative result is mandatory to be allowed for cruise boarding. [Update: As of 2023, pre-cruise Covid testing is no longer required.]

Check-In Procedures

You will be ushered by the customer service crew to follow the check-in queue guided by the queue belt barriers once you’ve arrived at Marina Bay Cruise Center (Address: 61 Marina Coastal Dr, Singapore 018947). Once your passports and online check-in details have been cleared, boarding passes will be processed and updated on your Royal Caribbean app. You will then be guided to the security scanning machine for your luggage scan. You are allowed to carry-on two 750ml champagnes or wines onboard for each stateroom. Please note that any bottles more than this permissible alcohol limit will be seized and stored by the ship before returning them to you on the last day onboard once the ship returns to Singapore waters. Any other alcoholic beverages including but not limited to spirits, beers, hard liquor, etc, will be confiscated for good.

Next, you will go through a segregation of queues according to non-stop and stopovers at the port-of-calls of Penang or Klang. The necessary documentations (pre-departure form, visa, etc) will have to be prepared beforehand as they will be checked at this point. Failure to do so will deny you from disembarking at Malaysia ports.

You will then be required to go to your waiting areas according to your respective muster stations as stated on your boarding pass (for eg, C3). Shortly after that you can board the Spectrum of the Seas! The staff members will be collecting your passports at the ship’s entry gates, and will be returning them to you on the day before you disembark. An announcement will be made for your respective muster groups for the location and time for the passport collections within the ship.
